Measure has been the leading magazine for formal English-language poetry since 2006.
Founded by Paul Bone and Robert Griffith shortly after the last run of The Formalist, Measure was conceived as an annual print magazine dedicated to publishing the best metrical, English-language verse from both the United States and abroad—and for more than a decade, the editors consistently achieved this goal.
In issue after issue, Measure published many of the finest new poems written by poetic legends like Richard Wilbur, Mark Jarman, X.J. Kennedy, Rhina Espaillat, Wyatt Prunty, Michael Heffernan and James Whitehead alongside new and emerging voices in the formal landscape.
Measure Review will advance this legacy online.
Guided by the editorial vision of Ashley Anna McHugh, we publish one new formal poem each week, while also providing free access to some of the best poems and interviews first published in the earlier print issues of Measure. If you would like to submit your poems for consideration for publication in Measure Review, please refer to our submission guidelines.
