That was one more year of America,
a smoking fuselage that never crashes
but shoots off molten sparks as it descends,
toxic and stupid, but still quite beautiful,
something between apocalypse and party,
like a yahoo’s swan dive off a bridge
with nothing but a fraying bungee cord
knotted around his ankle as he plunges.

Quincy R. Lehr’s poetry and prose have been published in numerous venues in North America, Europe, and Australia. His latest book is The Dark Lord of the Tiki Bar (2015), and he lives in Los Angeles.
